antelope valley california poppy reserve

The California poppy has been the official flower since 1903 and is one of the reasons the state is known as the “Golden State.” Each spring, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve comes alive with the seasonal surprises of the Mojave Desert Grassland habitat. It is one of California’s most consistent poppy-bearing land.

Thanks to bountiful rains, the neon beauties were in rare form. Taken on my one and only super bloom experience this season while exploring the reserve and the side of the road with a friend. March 26, 2017.
